Arm's Role in Ambient Computing
The vast array of technologies that will be used across ambient computing needs to be matched by a common, pervasive computing platform. With the largest computing footprint on the planet, this is the value of Arm.
Arm provides the efficiency, performance, AI capabilities, security, and scalable portfolio of technology solutions to enable the seamless, highly personalized ambient experiences of tomorrow. These solutions cover every single technology market and product category on the planet, from the smallest sensor to smartphones to high-performance datacenters. They also provide the ideal foundation for ambient compute platforms that are highly performant, energy efficient, secure, built to last, and able to handle complex compute-intensive AI workloads at the edge.
Arm’s solutions integrate the latest IP with development tools, designs, software optimizations, and physical implementation support to accelerate system-on-chip (SoC) designs.
For the consumer technology market, Arm offers Total Compute Solutions, which delivers a complete package of the latest Arm CPU, GPU, and interconnect technologies and then optimizes these for specific workloads across consumer technology devices to work seamlessly together as a complete system. The latest Arm Total Compute Solutions (TCS23) includes the Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU based on our brand-new 5th Generation GPU architecture, a new cluster of Armv9 CPUs that extend our performance leadership for next-gen artificial intelligence (AI), and new enhancements to deliver more accessible software for the millions of Arm developers.
Meanwhile for the IoT market, Arm offers Solutions for IoT, which combines Arm hardware IP, platform software, ML models, and tools to simplify development and accelerate product design. At the heart of Total Solutions is Arm Corstone, a pre-integrated, pre-verified IP subsystem that frees silicon designers to focus their time and effort on product differentiation. This is alongside Arm Cortex-M processors and Arm Ethos-U NPUs that can be used across a broad range of IoT technologies and AI processing tasks.
Since Arm powers a range of AI-based experiences across all devices, we are well-placed to enable the range of AI workloads and capabilities that are required in ambient compute systems. In the smartphone space alone, 70 percent of machine learning (ML) in today’s third-party applications run on Arm-based CPUs, with 99 percent of all smartphones running on Arm. In the IoT market, Arm’s technology is a driving force in AI innovation at the edge, with 20 billion Arm-based IoT chips capable of running AI workloads shipping every year.
This is supported by the successful adoption of the Arm NN software development kit for AI-based applications, which has already been deployed on over 1.7 billion devices and growing. The result is best-in-class performance for AI on Arm-based devices across consumer technology and IoT markets.
Finally, Arm provides a broad range of security IP products designed to protect personal data and devices across a wide range of markets and against a variety of attacks. These IP extend across the whole computing system, including processors and subsystems. Security is supported by more than 1,000 partners in the Arm ecosystem who enable the use of our security technologies through ongoing collaborations as security threats continue to evolve. This strong ecosystem also provides the environment to deliver common standards that help to deliver secure user experiences across all ambient computing devices.
