The Arm consumer tech survey reveals that we are on the cusp of another evolution in how consumers use and experience technology.
XR growth appears to be imminent and immersive experiences, like gaming, across all devices are set to define a new era of consumer tech. On some level, this appears to be driven by the metaverse, with companies displaying a strong commitment to creating products and solutions to provide metaverse-based experiences.
Focusing on the most widely used devices currently, the smartphone will continue to drive consumer tech innovation and is identified as the primary device for future metaverse-based experiences.
DTVs are set to experience a profound compute evolution, with more experiences going directly to the device, including gaming, smart camera, video calling and new applications, like those for fitness and exercise.
Alongside this shift in consumer tech, expect the compute architecture and software also to evolve. This is needed to not only deliver the experiences outlined above, but also enable more AI compute across all consumer devices. The survey reveals an almost universal acceptance that AI will be an increasingly prominent part of consumer tech experiences and also improve the application development process.
The evolution of compute architecture is reflected in the broad acceptance of new notebook architectures – like those built on Arm technology – to influence consumer tech innovation. Laptop devices will be built around how consumers experience and use them in the real world, in personal or professional environments.
As even more consumer devices come to market with more advanced compute capabilities, there will be larger attack surfaces with valuable personal content and data.
The Armv9 architecture provides the secure computing foundation for the technology industry, with v9 security features removing up to 95 percent of certain classes of vulnerabilities, like memory safety violations that account for the majority of all serious security bugs. However, expect further software innovation around security and privacy to support the demand for safer, more secure user experiences on consumer devices, making successful attacks even more difficult.
Reflecting on the survey results, Arm is excited about the future of consumer technology, with great innovation opportunities across a broad range of device and technologies.
Through the mobile – and then subsequent smartphone – evolution of the last 30 years, Arm has shown how our technology has redefined consumer computing. Now, as we enter the next evolution of consumer tech, we continue to influence how consumers interact with their devices and are perfectly poised to change the world. Again.
