Opening from Chris Bergey, SVP and GM, Client Line of Business.
The last decade in technology has been defined by continuous innovation in the consumer tech space. This has led to profound changes in how we, the consumer, interact and experience technology.
The smartphone continues to hold an expanding set of keys to our digital lives. This device has not only transformed how we communicate, work, and browse, but is now providing immersive experiences, such as gaming and entertainment, that many did not think were possible several years ago, let alone 15+ years ago when the very first smartphones were launched.
While the smartphone continues to be center stage in the world of consumer tech, we are now at a crossroads with other devices and technologies. The laptop market is moving toward new architectures that are more closely aligned with the smartphone experience, with these devices transforming productivity and play ‘on-the-go.’
XR-based wearable devices and experiences are poised to accelerate, providing the gateway for consumers to immerse themselves fully into the metaverse as it moves from hype to reality. More immersive experiences and applications beyond streaming services are coming directly to DTVs. And the amount of AI that takes place across all consumer devices will increase substantially, as AI inference moves from the cloud to the device.
This future presents exciting opportunities for consumers, but also additional challenges that the wider tech industry needs to consider. Delivering new devices, services and compute capabilities means improvements and changes in the hardware and software that will bring these future consumer tech experiences to life. This not only means innovation at a system-on-chip (SoC) level, but also for supporting software and tools to ensure developers have everything they need to deliver immersive applications that enhance the consumer experience.
As the world’s computing foundation, Arm is the driving force behind consumer computing experiences. In whatever direction the consumer tech market goes, Arm’s mobile heritage and emerging positions in new device markets mean that the future of consumer computing will be one that is built on Arm.
