Consumer tech companies are actively committed to developing products and solutions for the metaverse. A significant proportion of respondents say that their company is, at the very least, mapping out a product or go-to-market strategy for metaverse-based products or solutions. More than one in five said they are already selling metaverse-based products.
Despite the advancing development of XR-based devices, smartphones are still seen as the primary vehicle for metaverse-based experiences in the near-term future. Most also see the metaverse gaining the most traction in the enterprise space, in areas such as retail and communications. This is above entertainment-based experiences, including gaming. Here’s what the survey revealed:
Companies Committed to the Metaverse
72 percent say that their company is either beginning to map out a product/ go-to-market strategy (21 percent), testing products or services in beta (30 percent) or selling metaverse-based products (21 percent).
The Primary Metaverse Device
71 percent say smartphones will be the primary vehicle for metaverse-based experiences in five years’ time. This is followed by AR smartglasses (56 percent) and VR headsets (54 percent).
Where the Metaverse will Gain Most Traction
68 percent see the metaverse gaining the most traction for enhancing online retail experiences in the next five years. This is followed by as a social networking and communications environment (62 percent).
