About You

Candidates from any engineering background are welcome to apply, and we would ideally like to see candidates with some knowledge of C/C++ and Python.

In addition, depending on which area of technology you are interested in, one or more of the following would be helpful: an interest in low-level programming, image processing, computer graphics, computer vision, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Big Data algorithms, bash scripting, and Linux command-line usage.

We are also looking for candidates who want to innovate, make a high impact, are curious, and enjoy collaborating.

What Could You Be Doing in This Role?

Interns in Central Technology work to shape Arm's future technology strategy. You have the opportunity to make a big difference creating the world’s best products. Central Technology covers many technologies, with opportunities in teams that work in the following areas: CPUs, GPUs, computer vision, future architecture development, image processing, algorithm design, performance profiling, and optimisations.

Within a Central Technology team, you have opportunities to:

Develop software to support early investigations and enablement of new CPU’s and architectural features.
Develop skills in performance analysis of CPUs, GPUs, ISPs, or NPUs.
Work with software models or silicon platforms.
Make improvements and performance optimisations to our software.
Investigate new technologies or APIs.

Arm GPU is an exciting division, solving the tough task of bringing triple-A games with triple-A features to mobile. Making our GPUs—massively parallel systems with up to 24 cores—fit into a small chip within a mobile phone, while being powerful enough to run AAA games and heavy compute workloads, and also efficient enough to deliver good battery life, is a unique challenge.

Unlike our many CPUs, our GPU architecture is not public. This enables us to make big changes with each new GPU variant, delivering the latest graphics and compute technologies (such as VR/AR, AI, and ray tracing), and allowing us to continuously innovate with significant performance and efficiency improvements.

GPU is one of the largest software groups within Arm, with teams covering compilers, DevOps, user space, kernel device drivers, firmware, models, performance analysis, diagnostic and visualisation tools, Open CL drivers, and many more.

As GPU development is heavily collaborative, many of our projects involve working with multiple teams and offer a unique opportunity to explore a variety of technologies. Our projects are chosen to be as exciting as possible, while solving real challenges and providing a fantastic opportunity to learn about many different aspects of software development, compiler technology, operating systems/computer architecture, graphics, and more.

About You

All code we work with is either C/C++ or Python-based, so having a strong understanding in one or more of those languages—particularly in C—is required. Some basic knowledge of OS concepts (such as memory management, scheduling, and threads) is ideal. Some knowledge or experience with hardware concepts (e.g. via embedded programming) is useful. Some knowledge of computer graphics concepts would be nice, but is not necessary.

Students are invited to join teams across the organization – working with engineers to deliver interesting and impactful projects. As a member of a team, you get a firsthand view of how Arm develops GPUs, and experience what it's like to work in a fast-paced tech company.

Machine Learning

Location: Cambridge

The Arm Machine Learning (ML) group, part of Central Engineering (CE-ML), includes teams working on a wide range of topics including driver development for specialized ML hardware, ML ecosystem growth, open source contributions for Arm products such as Arm Kleidi AI and Arm Compute Library (ACL), ML performance on Arm IP analysis, and more. We also contribute to community projects, such as PyTorch and TensorFlow. Most of the software developed in CE-ML is released as open source.

About You

The ideal candidate has an interest in ML and is keen to learn more about the cutting edge of technology in hardware, as well as software optimisation for ML and AI. As most of the teams do not directly develop ML models, ML knowledge is not a requirement. We would instead appreciate an interest or knowledge in lower-level languages where memory management is important, such as C/C++. Requirements vary, depending on the team.

What Could You Be Doing in this Role?

ML candidates can expect to learn about deploying ML workloads across a range of Arm technology, including CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators. Our teams write a broad spectrum of software, from low-level drivers to graph compilers, high-level ML frameworks, and application code.

Strategy and Ecosystems (STE)

(Part 1)

Location: Cambridge

Developer Platforms is a team within our Strategy and Ecosystems group who are tasked with the success of key strategic developer platforms critical to Arm. The definition of platform can be quite broad and includes things like Windows, Android, Game Engines, and our own Cortex processors.

For each of these platforms, we identify and provide whatever is needed to make it a success for Arm. This is often through:

The provision of software examples and educational material.
The building of communities or growing of developer relations.

Our goals as an organization are to ensure that software runs better on Arm than it does anywhere else, and that developers love working with Arm technology from day one.

About You

You are a creative and hard-working self-starter with a curiosity about computing that spans a technology stack or platform that we consider strategic. The ability to learn and reason about new technologies and concepts quickly will be an advantage.
