Internet of Things
Accelerate and simplify voice- and vision-based IoT device design, reduce powerconsumption, enhance security, and build in energy efficiency.
IoT is changing the world, and Google companies are leading the charge in helping shape this revolution.
Arm computing technology is ubiquitous across IoT and embedded applications, making Arm ideally equipped to help Google engineers and developers address the issues they face in designing and creating IoT devices, such as:
Increasing demand for higher performance, increased security, and less complex development flows.
Flexibility for running apps, security, and integration of small-size chips with low weight and low power consumption.
The Google Nest doorbell camera is a prime example of how Arm technology can drive success in the smart IoT device market, thanks to camera SoC integration with Arm Cortex-A Class CPUs.
Arm IP perfectly addresses the performance, power, and cost requirements of IoT sensors.
As an example, the Cortex-A32 is a low-power 32-bit-only, Armv8 processor designed to consume as little as 4mW of power. This ultra-high efficiency makes it suitable for the diverse embedded and IoT markets.
IoT devices developed to date have largely focused on voice-enabled applications. Now we’re moving into the next wave of IoT – devices based on visual input that deliver new experiences in a range of diverse environments, from retail to smart home and beyond.
These technologies can help cities improve resource efficiency and sustainability. Among many benefits, they enhance the mobility of citizens and provide health and safety benefits, for instance, the ability to monitor street lights and traffic.
We are seeing a huge range of companies looking to build transformative, smart, and secure vision devices. We provide Google developers and engineers with specialized processing IP, as well as standardized, secure software, and innovative approaches to tooling and development for IoT products.
To truly fuel the new IoT economy, barriers to entry need to be lower for Google companies. Arm Total Solutions for IoT enables this.
This industry-first program brings together specialized processing capabilities with standardized, secure software, and innovative approaches to tooling and development.
Among the many benefits, the program provides access to fundamental cornerstones of more effective IoT design, including:

The Connectivity Standards Alliance has released the Matter 1.0 standard and certification program. Arm is an important partner within this ground-breaking IoT-industry collaboration project, helping to provide a standard way to connect smart-home devices with out-of-box interoperability.
Arm is working closely with Alliance to ensure the Arm ecosystem is ready to support developers in building these devices, including a current project with the Matter CI team to explore the integration of Arm Virtual Hardware into the core CI flows of the Matter CI/CD (continuous integrations/continuous development) infrastructure. This provides Google companies with the opportunity to prototype their innovations with Arm technology and tools, virtually or in the cloud, before committing to hardware. This speeds both adoption and time to market.
Arm Virtual Hardware and TensorFlow
Virtual devices and Cortex-M models available through Arm Virtual Hardware are being used by TensorFlow to develop machine learning at the edge viaTensorFlow Lite For Microcontrollers.
This increases the coverage of TensorFlow's cloud-based continuous integration system. In turn this provides opportunities to accelerate the development of innovative machine learning applications without the need to develop and access physical hardware.
IoT solutions are making it easier to support a more sustainable future by connecting the physical world. On land and in the oceans, IoT devices help organizations understand the environment so society can act more responsibly.
Arm supports sustainability efforts through our energy-efficient, high-performing IP. For instance, the Arm Ethos-U55 Neural network processor provides up to 90 percent energy reduction for machine learning workloads for IoT devices.
Furthermore, designed to be energy-efficient, the Arm Cortex-M processor family meets the requirements of many IoT applications. It allows Google designers to develop a wide range of IoT products that meet processor requirements, such as low-power, high-code density, high performance, memory space, and more.
Google companies are central to helping shape the IoT revolution, playing a pivotal role in creating this advanced new world. Arm IP is already ubiquitous in IoT developments and embedded applications. Together we can take innovation to the next level.
